Accounting that no longer feels intimidating

My business card says that I am an interpreter/translator/language teacher. However, when people ask me what I do, a long answer follows. The range of my services is broad and diverse. I have been working as an interpreter/translator since 2008. Later, I discovered in myself the ability and desire to share knowledge, so I started teaching, and today many people already know me as Diāna Košā from “DK.valodu.skola” .

Languages are my greatest passion, but alongside them I also write SEO articles and other content that helps companies become more visible on the internet. I maintain my inner balance through creative expression — drawing with henna at events, leading various workshops and women’s self-development sessions.

This diversity of services has one common goal — to help people. It does not matter whether it is language learning, quality content for companies, a creative experience in a henna workshop or a safe environment in a women’s circle.

During the pandemic, the decision was made to become a full-time solo entrepreneur (self-employed person). This means that I am responsible not only for attracting clients and working with them, but also for issuing invoices, registering them, keeping records of income and expenses, calculating taxes and communicating regularly with the State Revenue Service.

At the beginning, I worked with an accountant. The monthly service cost at least 50 euros per month, while the costs of preparing quarterly reports and submitting the annual income declaration were calculated separately. Since the accounting matters were handled without my involvement, I lacked transparency and understanding of the final result. All I could do was transfer the calculated tax amount to the Treasury account. In principle, I was relying completely on the accountant. However, one unexpected situation threw my accountant off track. The submission of reports was delayed, and at the end of the year I faced an unpleasant surprise. At that moment, I realized how helpless I felt in a situation where I did not understand my own accounting processes. I understood that it could no longer continue like this and that I needed to find a good alternative that would allow me to take accounting into my own hands.

That is why I started using the service offered by PATS.lv. At the moment, the plan I have chosen costs me 17 euros per month, and in return I receive not only the possibility to prepare reports for VID, but also much greater control over my business activity. I see income and expenses in real time, understand how tax payments are formed, and can plan my cash flow in time.

Another feature that I really appreciate is reminders. The system informs me in time about important deadlines and required actions, so I do not have to worry that, in a rush, I might forget to submit a report or miss an important date. This gives me a sense of security and allows me to focus on my direct work responsibilities and their quality.

I have realized that for a self-employed person it is important not only to do what they enjoy, but also to understand the financial side of their business activity. The better I understand my business activity, the more confidently I can plan future projects and make important decisions.

That is why PATS.lv has become a reliable ally for me. I am a person with a strongly humanities-oriented way of thinking, so I have never been on friendly terms with numbers. Thanks to the well-thought-out system, accounting no longer seems frightening to me — I understand what I am doing and can be sure that everything is in order.
